Mental Illness, COVID – 19 & Antara

The moment Covid-19 cases were reported in West Bengal, our main concern was ‘How to protect the 262 mentally ill persons staying at ANTARA PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL from this fast spreading pandemic? It will be a disaster if mentally ill persons get infected. How will you isolate and treat them? A number of these patients are homeless persons. Another concern was how to ensure regular supply of medicines to hundreds of patients in the villages and Kolkata City who depend on the medicines supplied from Antara OPD Clinics.

After about a month of lock-down, we are happy to report that every patient has been taken good care of. Against all odds, the OPD is kept open and consultation & medicines are provided to all patients. This has been possible because of the selfless service of the doctors & healthcare staff and all the more because of the support from people like you who have come forward with donations in cash & kind.

The struggle continues and we need your help for their continued care and protection. Apart from food, shelter, medicines and care, we need to arrange Masks, Gloves, PPE Kits, Forehead Thermometers, Sanitizers, etc; to protect the patients, staff and visitors.

We earnestly look forward to your donations in cash & kind to help us to continue the services. Any amount in cash donations and any quantity of food items, etc; are welcome.
