What is Psychological Counselling?

Mental health has become a major concern worldwide and India is not far behind in recognising and sharing this concern. Given the stressful life, many people are facing a number of mental health issues like mood issues like depression, anger, mood swings, anxiety problems, eating disorders, obesity, addiction, and many other related disorders. The Course in Psychological Counselling develops your theoretical and practical ability to identify the areas of distress and conduct intervention programme to help people cope up with crisis.

Duration of the Course

The P.G. Diploma in Psychological Counselling is a 1-year diploma programme under MAKAUT University (Formerly known as WBUT). There is sufficient emphasis on field projects and internship programs for building practical experience under experienced Psychologists of Antara.

What will be Your Work Prospects after the Course?

Candidates who have successfully completed their training in psychological counselling will be able to work in Hospitals, Mental Health Clinics, assist any Psychiatrist/Psychologist/Psychiatric Social Workers, Schools or Academic Institutes, Rehabilitation Centre, NGOs working with children, adolescent, elderly or special population, work in industrial set-ups or corporate houses, engage in individual entrepreneurship and pursue higher studies.

On Completion of Course Students will acquire

  • Skills and competencies required to function as a professional counsellor. Apply the concepts, skills, principles and ethical guidelines in the practice of counselling.
  • Apply the fundamental concepts of psychology and assess the developmental patterns of behaviour, personality patterns and cognitive functioning of people which will help to understand the working of human behaviour.
  • Apply these skills in various areas of counselling namely like mental health centres, hospitals, school, clinics, NGO, rehab centre.
  • Develop understanding of psychopathology and use it for diagnostic purposes to plan the intervention.
  • Develop skills for assessment and statistical computation of data to investigate and formulate diagnosis and perform intervention.
  • Demonstrate the role of psychological counsellor and entrepreneur along with development of leadership skills and personality and perform effective counselling following legal guidelines.
