Im – possible

Im – possible

Sandhya Mondal (name changed), aged 48 yrs, a resident of Raichak, South 24 Parganas has been suffering from mental disorder for many years but proper treatment and family support was difficult to come by.

After the demise of her husband, her mental situation deteriorated with both her son and daughter-in-law having no option but to keep her in a locked room because of her violent behavior. When an opportunity came by she would escape and be seen wandering on the roads and even causing harm to bystanders.

Antara having started an outreach clinic (team of Psychiatrist, Social Worker, Psychologist, Pharmacist, Nurse and Office staff) at Raichak, along with our team from the Community Mental Health Unit do address various community programs along with home visits and individual follow-ups by our field mobilizer Ms. Mitali Majhi.

Sandhya was identified by our field mobilizer and was put under treatment of our Consultant Psychiatrist. With frequent counselling sessions of Sandhya and her family, along with constant monitoring of her medications by our team, the Impossible was made Possible which was done over a period of 2 months.

It has been 3 months that she has been leading a normal life along with her family members. No more locked rooms and has developed a high sense of hygiene and cleanliness which has brought about dignity to Sandhya Mondal who was once considered an untouchable.
