Building Hope, One Smile at a Time.

Shri. Kamal Prakash

President, ANTARA

For over five decades, Antara has stood as a beacon of hope, a testament to the unwavering dedication of our team and the invaluable support of our Patron. Together, we have built an institution of excellence, providing crucial services and support for those struggling with mental health challenges.

However, as we celebrate these achievements, we must confront a sobering reality. Today, nearly one in five people globally, and in India, grapple with some form of mental health disorder. This staggering statistic reveals a growing chasm between the immense need for help and the resources available.

This is a call to action. It compels us, as stakeholders in society, to bridge this gap without delay. We must come together in a spirit of collective responsibility to create a holistic approach to mental health. This comprehensive strategy should encompass two key pillars:

  • Capacity Building: We urgently need to strengthen our healthcare systems by investing in training and infrastructure. This will empower healthcare professionals to effectively diagnose and treat mental illness, ensuring timely interventions and improved outcomes.
  • Prevention: Mental health challenges do not discriminate. They affect people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. By promoting mental health awareness, creating supportive environments, and addressing the root causes of mental distress, we can prevent the spread of illness and foster a society that prioritizes well-being.

Antara remains resolute in its commitment to this cause. We stand ready to collaborate with all stakeholders – government agencies, healthcare institutions, NGOs, and individuals – to build a future where mental health receives the attention it deserves. By working together, we can create a society where people with mental illness are not stigmatized but supported, empowered, and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Let us join hands and act with urgency. Let us ensure that mental health is no longer a whispered secret, but a conversation openly embraced by all. Together, we can build a world where mental well-being is a right, not a privilege.
