Antara Psychiatric Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre, in collaboration with the Kolkata Psychiatric Club, organised a Community Mental Health Awareness Programme for ASHA Workers of Baruipur Block on 22 August 2026. The programme brought together 230 ASHA workers with the aim of strengthening their understanding of mental health, promoting early identification of mental health concerns, and highlighting the vital role of frontline health workers in connecting individuals and families with appropriate care and support. The programme was honoured by the presence of Mr. Nitish Kumar Barik, B.M.O. (Health), Baruipur, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also gracing the occasion were Dr. Soumya Chatterjee, Chief Psychiatrist, Antara, and Mr. Nobin D. Samuel, CEO – Acting, Antara, whose presence added significance to the programme and reflected Antara’s continued commitment to strengthening community mental healthcare. The expert sessions were led by Dr. Abir Mukherjee, Dr. Partha Kundu, Dr. Sarmistha Chakraborti, Dr. Sanchari Roy, Dr. Abhiruchi Chatterjee, Dr. Sayandip Ghosh, Dr. Partha Sarathi Kundu and Dr. Prabir Paul, who shared valuable insights and practical perspectives on mental health and community-based care. The programme was supported by ASHA Supervisors Mr. Samir Pattawari and Mr. Milan Chandra Naskar, whose coordination played an important role in bringing together the ASHA workers for this meaningful initiative. Through such collaborative programmes, Antara and the Kolkata Psychiatric Club continue to work towards creating greater mental health awareness at the grassroots level and empowering frontline health workers to become effective bridges between communities and mental healthcare services.
